JamJar for hospitality
Scrap the service charge. Tip the person.
Card tips aren't switched on yet. You can set up your jar and QR now; nobody can pay through JamJar until Jamma switches card payments on.
Give every server their own QR tip code. Guests reward the person who made their night, feedback stays private, and every guest can choose to leave you a Google review.
First trial venue: Salty Olive, Wokingham, live demo below.
How it works
Every team member gets a jar
Each server, bartender and host gets a personal QR, on a badge, a table card or the bill folder. Set up takes minutes per person.
Guests tip the person
Scan, tip by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, tap what stood out, done in seconds. No app, no sign-up, no awkward card machine moment.
Happy guests go public
After every tip, the guest can choose to leave a Google review too, offered to everyone, never only to happy guests, and never posted for them. Their JamJar feedback stays private to the person they tipped.
The old way
One service charge pot, shared by all, regardless of effort.
Your star server and the person coasting take home exactly the same. Nobody's night gets better by going the extra mile.
The JamJar way
Individual jars reward the individuals who make the difference.
Staff who create great nights get paid for it, and the great nights they create are exactly what fills your tables, your tips and your Google reviews. Everyone works for the win: the server, the venue, the guest.
Live demo · the Wokingham trial
Meet the Salty Olive team
Mediterranean small plates in the heart of Wokingham, and the first venue to scrap the service charge in favour of tipping the person who actually looked after you.
These are demo jars: scan one with your phone to see the guest flow, tip, tap what stood out, and an optional Google review hand-off. Demo jars never charge a card.
Why venues are switching
Reward the people who make the difference
A personal JamJar QR rewards the individual staff who go the extra mile, and great, motivated service is what brings guests back through your door. A shared pot rewards nobody in particular.
Reviews, asked fairly
Reviews matter for local search. Right after the tip, every guest, whatever they rated, is offered one optional link to your Google reviews, no chasing, no QR-to-nowhere table tents.
Feedback reaches you privately
Every rating and comment comes to the team privately, the same evening, so you can fix a problem quickly. The review link is never withheld from anyone.
Tips go to the person
Each tip is recorded to the named team member who received it, with a clear record. Your written tipping policy and Tips Act obligations still apply. Take your own advice on them.
Deeper dives: scrapping the service charge, turning tips into Google reviews and the Tips Act in plain English.
Venue FAQs
Do we have to scrap our service charge?+
No, some venues run JamJar alongside a reduced service charge. But the venues leading this (like our Wokingham trial) drop the charge entirely: menus get cheaper on paper, and guests choose who to reward.
How do staff get paid?+
Each team member connects their own bank account through Stripe; the venue never touches the money. Tips go to the person, minus JamJar's fee (20% + VAT, or 0% platform fee on Jamma Premium with card processing still deducted). How this interacts with your duties under the Employment (Allocation of Tips) Act is for your own adviser. JamJar doesn't give legal advice.
What does it cost the venue?+
Nothing, no hardware, no subscription, no per-seat fee. The standard JamJar fee (20% + VAT, 24% in total) comes out of tips received; team members on Jamma Premium pay 0% platform fee, with card processing still deducted.
How does the Google review link work?+
You give us your Google review short-link. Once a guest's tip is confirmed, we offer them one clearly labelled, optional button that opens your Google reviews in a new tab. Every guest, whatever rating they gave (asking only happy guests would be review gating). Nothing is ever posted for them, and their JamJar message stays private to the person they tipped.
What feedback do we see?+
Per-server ratings, quick-tap tags (friendliness, speed, recommendations, configurable to whatever you want to measure) and private written comments, all timestamped. It's a live mystery-diner programme your guests run for you.
Run the trial at your venue
We'll set your whole team up with jars, print your table cards, and wire the Google-review nudge, usually live within a week.
